Time Zone

The time in Yaounde is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +1.


This time in Yaounde (November) is the beginning of the dry season. Temperatures vary from 240 C to 280 C.

Information Technology

The following Rwandan mobile telecommunication service providers are available: (i) MTN; (ii) ORANGE; (iii) CAMTEL and (iv) NEXTEL.

The mobile telephone service providers also provide gateway to Internet using GPRS, 3G and 4G. Cell phone SIM cards are widely available in Cameroon. Every SIM card user/buyer in Cameroon is expected by regulation to be registered prior to activation. SIM cards can be registered at the point of purchase.

Electricity Supply

The electricity supply in Cameroon is 220 volts, alternating current (AC). Wall outlets take continental-type plugs, with two round prongs. If needed, it is advisable to bring your own adapter and transformer.


The unit of currency is the CFA Franc (XAF). There is a fixed exchange rate with EURO: 1 EURO = 655,957 CFA Francs. Bureau de Change facilities are available at the airport and in Yaounde city.

Banking Services

Banking hours are from 08:00 to 15:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Local and regional banks hold agreements with a variety of credit card networks: VISA – MasterCard – American Express (less common).

Most internationally recognized currencies and travelers’ cheques can be exchanged at commercial banks, hotels and the airport. Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.

Business and Shopping Hours

Public Offices open from 07:30 to 15:30 while businesses open from 8:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday. Weekend business and shopping hours range between 09:00 to 19h:30.


The only mandatory vaccine is that of the yellow fever. However it is always recommended that you travel with your own preferred brand of medicines and contact your doctor for advice before travelling. However, prevention against malaria is highly recommended. It is also a good idea to take along something for stomach upsets, just in case.

First Aid and Emergency services will be available at the Yaounde Conference Centre, Secretariat of the Organizing Team. For more extensive medical services, delegates are advised to contact the First Aid and Emergency Team for advice.


Mains water is chlorinated in Cameroon towns and cities, but it is advisable to drink mineral water.
